what:
Mustang Creek Family Fund, with Opponents of Sunset Amphitheater, are advocating for the surrounding residents and homeowners who are in opposition of the rezoning of 810 S. John Kilpatrick Turnpike by Mustang Creek Crossings LLC. The developers (Mustang Creek Crossings LLC is owned by Sam Coury and Carol Hefner) are making an attempt to have the property near two schools (north of Mustang Creek Elementary and Mustang North Middle School)rezoned for use as a 12,500 seat outdoor amphitheater. Notes Live, the company building the amphitheater, has proposed that the venue would be open from April through October with an estimated 85 shows for the season. They also proposed to rent the venue out for graduation ceremonies and weddings which would add the number of days amplified music would happen.
where:
The address for the proposed rezone of the property PUD-1983 is 810 S. John Kilpatrick Turnpike. It is located just northwest of SW 15th and Sara Road; east of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike, and south of I-40. Keep in mind: there is no exit off of I-40 for Sara Road - - residents would likely see an increase in traffic on Morgan Road, Mustang Road, Reno Avenue, and SW 15th Street. As of March 2024, there is no present plan in place to widen Sara Road North of SW 15th or SW 15th from Morgan Road to Mustang Road.
why:
We believe that the proposed amphitheater is too close to schools and residential areas. Plenty of articles have been written with complaints of sound from amphitheaters being heard and felt miles away; along with other evidence that suggests this would not be optimal for residents. There would also likely be no enforcement of the sound ordinance. A result of this would be that the venue would create noise well into the night (beyond the hours of the established curfew). From what we have established, there is no one presently employed by the state of Oklahoma that would be able to cease operations. Residents most likely would call 911 to report the nuisance, adding additional strain to emergency lines in the process. The proposed sunset amphitheater could potentially receive a fine of $750 per day (but it is possible that would already be built into their budget).
